Selligion Technologies has raised Rs 3 crore seed funding from Bounce Infinity's chief executive officer (CEO) Vivekananda Hallekere, Jar App's CEO Nishchay AG, Xiaomi Global founding team member Alvin Tse and founder of Amarante Shipping Captain Prashant Priya.
The Mumbai-based start-up will utilise this capital to build a scalable cloud-based software ecosystem for future deployment while distributing a computer variant to a sizable number of students on a monthly subscription model. Praho, the company's first offering, is a direct-to-consumer (D2C), hybrid cloud-based computer.
On one end the future will see nearly every business and work opportunity becoming either tech-based or tech-enabled. On the other end, data suggests that less than 10 per cent to 15 per cent of Indian homes own a computer.
"We recognise the reasons for this gap and are reimagining computing for India by building a cloud-based ecosystem and an easy-to-access delivery model. The seed fund we have acquired will help us scale faster and enable every Indian student to access opportunities that come with access to powerful computers," said Yoshita Sengupta, co-founder and chief operating officer of Selligion Technologies.
"We see the potential impact that the technology built by Selligion can have on future generations, the economy and the technology infrastructure in India. We believe in the team's intent and are happy to back them," added Vivekananda Hallekere, co-founder and CEO of Bounce.
Sengupta founded Selligion Technologies along with Naman Chakraborty, Joby John and Puneet Raheja. The company claims it has has conceptualised, designed and developed the world's first consumer cloud computer. It has set out to reimagine computing for India by building a hardware and cloud-based software ecosystem that can deliver computing for under Rs 399 a month.
The team will start selling one variant of this computer to customers across the country by this year end.
