Edtech unicorn Physics Wallah (PW) has given a full fee waiver on some of its paid batches to 51,000 students for the academic session 2023-2024 to support and empower those from economically weaker sections of society who lack access to quality education. The total cost, amounting to the contribution in terms of waiving the fee, is over Rs 17 crore.
Since its inception in 2020, PW has provided high-quality and affordable courses, despite students in remote areas being unable to afford them. The company stated in a press release that, to make education more affordable, the founder and CEO announced this initiative aimed at leveling the playing field for students in terms of opportunities.
The edtech is providing free quality education on YouTube to over 4 crore students.
PW Founder and CEO Alakh Pandey said, “This initiative is for students from disadvantaged financial backgrounds who haven't given up on their academic aspirations. We aim to encourage them and provide hope that we stand by them, and financial constraints won't hinder their Right to Education. Our commitment to advancing this revolution at scale across Bharat will continue.”

The fee waiver was applied to NEET Ultimate Crash Course 2.0, JEE Ultimate Crash Course 2.0 for droppers and class 12 students, Arjuna JEE and NEET 4.0, Board booster for class 12 science, class 10th board booster, NEET Hindi crash course, Neev fast track for class 9, Umang 2.0 for class 8, and commerce exam booster for class 11 and 12, as well as arts courses for class 11th and 12th.
Starting as a YouTube channel in 2014, PW became a Unicorn in 2022 and now it has more than 27 lakh paid students, and 1 crore app downloads on the PW App. PW has expanded into 28 test prep categories and a skilling vertical, with over 75 tech-enabled Vidyapeeth (offline) and 30 Pathshala (hybrid) centres across the country.
The report observed that the admin roles were at the top with an 11.5 per cent share in postings with Sales, Marketing, and Management rounding up the top five sectors that hired freshers.
From 2017 to 2023, NSRCEL incubated over 100 ventures and provided grants totaling over Rs. 11 crores. These ventures also attracted follow-on funding exceeding Rs. 33 crores.
