Employees shared their experiences on Twitter after being laid off
Poland-based online community learning platform Brainly laid off several employees globally due to the slowdown in their growth. Multiple sources claimed that the company fired the entire Indian team over a Google Meet call.
The Indian team had nearly 35 members among which Brainly decided to retain only five. Employees who got fired were operating out of the UB City office in Bengaluru.
According to a Mint report, at least 50 per cent of the fired employees are women who got hired barely a few months ago.
Employees who were handed pink slips took to Twitter to share their experiences.
"Layoffs are sad, but what is worse is how they are handled. CEO comes on the call -- announces India shutdown and within 2 minutes slack and emails shut off, and laptops disconnected. Everyone was shocked. And then no severance," an affected employee wrote on Twitter.
While talking about this layoff, a company spokesperson hinted towards a change of strategy that led to this harsh decision.
"Unfortunately, we were not able to maintain some of the roles focussed on developing our paid plans and products. Before this information went public, we had offered departure packages to all 25 people whose roles were affected by these changes," the spokesperson told IANS.
Brainly claims to have a 5.5 crore user base of students, parents, and teachers in India. Additionally, The company has large communities spread across the US, Russia, Indonesia, Brazil, and Latin America.
