Rebel Foods, a Pune-based cloud kitchen operator, has acquired master franchise rights to operate Wendy’s restaurants in the country.
In 2020, Rebel Foods acquired the rights to run cloud kitchens for Wendy’s in India. It also committed to open around 250 delivery-only locations by 2030. Now, through the extended partnership, Rebel Foods will completely takeover the management and operations of the US-based fast food chain in India.
“This one of its kind partnership will enable Rebel Foods to be the first Indian food-tech company to expand a major global QSR (Quick Service Restaurant) through both cloud kitchens and traditional restaurants,” the company stated in a media announcement.
Wendy’s which has its presence in over 90 locations in the country was previously managed by Sierra Nevada Restaurants and was responsible to expand the chain’s physical presence in the country. The recent development hence marked the end of Wendy’s franchise partnership with the latter in India.
“Through this groundbreaking partnership, we will continue to leverage our expertise in delivery, automation and innovation to hyper-scale the brand’s reach and extend Wendy’s experience to Indian customers,” observed Rebel Foods.
In November 2022, it was reported that Rebel Foods secured its second round of debt funding. It raised Rs 100 crore from two investors—InnoVen Capital and Trifecta Capital, infusing a total of Rs 50 crore into the company.
